The Montagne de Reims is strongly marked by agricultural activities. Located in the heart of the AOC Champagne, it stands out for the preponderant place of viticulture in its agriculture (20%). Field crops cover 30% of the Park's territory. Result ? The territory's capacity for food self-sufficiency remains limited. To overcome this phenomenon, the Park acts at various levels, with a single motto: “All stakeholders, all concerned for responsible and sustainable food”. Follow us on this page to find out more!

The Territorial Food Project of the Marne Triangle: késaco?
More than ever, sustainable agriculture and food are at the heart of concerns consumers and producers: promoting short circuits, encouraging environmentally friendly agriculture, facilitating access to healthy food for all, reducing food waste, structuring agricultural sectors geared towards the local market, etc.

The definition of a Territorial Food Project (PAT)
Thus, since 2014, the Future law for agriculture encourages throughout France Territorial Food Projects (PAT). Designed collectively by stakeholders in a region (municipalities, elected officials, agricultural and agri-food companies, citizens, etc.), these projects have a clear objective: relocate agriculture and food to the territories.
This involves, for example, supporting farmers for their installation, the implementation of short circuits or the development of local, quality products in canteens.
The Marne Triangle PAT: an inter-community project
The Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park has partnered with the Greater Reims, the Reims, Châlons-en-Champagne region and Epernay Country, Land of Champagne to lead the PAT of the Marne Triangle: an inter-community approach which places food at the heart of regional development.

The PAT of the Marne Triangle benefits from official recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and thus obtained the PAT level 2 label October 29, 2024 for a period of 5 years.

Behind the scenes of the PAT Marnais strategy
This project is based on a diagnostic built through extensive consultation, involving more than 1 people.

A diagnosis of our local food system was conducted to better understand our agriculture and food, from field to plate. In total, 1400 people contributed to this assessment (communities, associations, producers, processors, distributors, and local residents).
This preparatory work made it possible to define a shared strategy by 2039, composed of 4 strategic axes:
- Maintain and diversify the agricultural fabric while preserving resources
- Structuring sustainable agricultural sectors geared towards the local market
- Facilitate access to quality sustainable food for all
- Promoting local agricultural and food initiatives

The identification of needs, strengths and gaps on agricultural and food issues made it possible to build a roadmap to make the Marnais Triangle a territory engaged in the agricultural and food transition. This document provides a succinct portrait of the territory and presents the 4 strategic axes and 15 objectives of the Territorial Food Project.
This strategy was rolled out in 2023 in a roadmap of 14 actions for the period 2024 to 2027.
La project governance is concerted between the communities and the various stakeholders in the territory, under the coordination of the Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park, which ensures the animation and monitoring of the roadmap.
