This winter of 2025 was marked by the annual inventory of the Park's bats.
Thanks to the mobilization of the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Champagne-Ardenne and the French Office for Biodiversity, who collaborated with our teams in the field!

What is this monitoring for?
These counts are carried out at the same time each year, in the territory of the Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park, and make it possible to monitor the evolution of bat populations locally.
Why carry out these counts in winter?
It is easier to count bats during hibernation because they cling to walls and ceilings to sleep, allowing us to easily identify them without touching or waking them.
What are the results ?
This winter, we counted 113 individuals for a diversity of 8 species, including Lesser Horseshoe Bats. A great evolution since 2023, when we counted 81 individuals!
As a reminder, all bats are protected! It is therefore forbidden to disturb or handle them. If you have any questions or problems about the presence of bats in your home, contact the Park, which will redirect you to specialized naturalist associations.
